Something I wish I had Designed

When I was first posed this question, a million different answers flooded to my head. I thought about revolutionary design throughout history. Inventions such as cars for the disabled and smartphones. But as important as these designs are, I'm not sure if that is the type of design that I've always wanted to do. Personally I've always been more inclined to the type of design that is eye catching and stands out from the rest. Something that wasn't a completely new and unheard of idea, but something so influential, something that changed everything that followed it. And in the modern tech world, this is evident all over. That's why something I wish I had designed is the modern mountain bike.

The first bicycle was invented in 1817 and had no pedals and no other features but the evolution over those two hundred years is something that absolutely baffles me. The modern mountain bike has so many different features, suspension, brakes, who knows how many gears and countless other features that make it the perfect transport across mountainous terrain. I know that no one person made the modern bicycle, and its 200 years of iteration and change that has culminated in it's current design. But it's something that I am still in awe of every time I ride one. It's suspension is ingenious to break every hit it can take, the gears have to work seamlessly so as not to throw the rider off halfway down a hill. Even the way the frame of a mountain bike is absolutely different to the way in which a racing bike is designed, the similarities are evident.
A big part of design that I enjoy is creating something specifically designed for one purpose, and can carry that out flawlessly, but also has loads of different purposes that are almost just as important as it's main focus. To create something so versatile, something so specific yet so broad, its something I only wish that I one day have the opportunity to be involved in. I've been cycling everywhere for years, and needless to say it's a design that I have been fascinated with for just as long.
